WNBA star Caitlin Clark’s alleged stalker, Michael Lewis, appeared in court on Tuesday, where he was immediately rebuked by Judge Angela Davis for talking during the proceedings. Lewis, 55, from Denton, Texas, was arrested at an Indianapolis hotel after allegedly posting explicit messages on social media tagging Clark and causing her to feel “terrorized” and “intimidated”.
Lewis was charged with a felony stalking count, which carries up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine. He was ordered held on $50,000 bail and told to stay away from Gainbridge Fieldhouse and Hinkle Fieldhouse, where Clark plays for the Indiana Fever.
Public defender Gavin Uitvlugt will represent Lewis in court. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for March 31. This incident highlights the importance of taking stalking cases seriously, as Marion County prosecutor Ryan Mears said, “It takes a lot of courage for women to come forward in these cases…and we commend our law enforcement agencies for swift and serious action.”
