The CDC notes that norovirus is a highly infectious gastrointestinal virus that causes foodborne illness in the country.
Symptoms include vomiting and diarrhea, which differentiate it from the stomach bug or flu. However, these cases often resolve on their own without medical attention, making it difficult to track the actual number of infected individuals.
Certain populations are more susceptible to norovirus, including adults over 65 years old, young children, pregnant women, and those with severe symptoms like weakness, fatigue, or exhaustion. The CDC advises that even after recovery, individuals can still spread the virus for up to two weeks.
