San Bernardino is set to build over 100 new electric vehicle charging stations after receiving a federal grant of more than $14 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration.
The city plans to install 101 charging stations at 15 locations, including parks, community centers, schools, and downtown areas. The locations are spread across the city to provide accessible charging options for residents and visitors.
“This grant propels San Bernardino toward a greener, more resilient future,” said Mayor Helen Tran. “By adding over 100 community EV charging stations, we are improving access to sustainable transportation and reaffirming our dedication to environmental progress and community growth.”
The grant was awarded as part of the Department of Transportation’s Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Program, which aims to promote electric vehicle adoption nationwide. San Bernardino is one of 49 recipients of the grant across the US, including six other California cities. The city will be the only Southern California organization to receive the funding.
The new charging stations are expected to benefit both residents and visitors alike, providing a convenient and sustainable way to charge their vehicles on-the-go.
