Texas QB Quinn Ewers Declares for NFL Draft

Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers is declaring for the NFL draft, capping off an impressive collegiate career that saw him lead the team to two College Football Playoff appearances and numerous victories over top-ranked opponents. The 2021 transfer from Ohio State helped revive the program’s fortunes after a 5-7 season in 2021, setting the stage for Ewers’ outstanding performances as a starter.

Ewers went on to excel at Texas, throwing for 9,128 yards and 68 touchdowns in just three seasons, completing 64.9% of his passes. His impressive statistics earned him a spot among the top quarterbacks in program history, tied with Sam Ehlinger and Colt McCoy for fourth all-time in wins by a Texas quarterback.

Ewers’ decision not to return to college football next year wasn’t unexpected, as he previously stated that he did not expect to continue playing at the collegiate level. When asked about his legacy, Ewers hopes to be remembered as a great teammate who pushed himself and others to excel.

The NFL is expected to take notice of Ewers’ talent, with scouts impressed by his pure arm talent, consistent production, and time in a sophisticated offense under coach Steve Sarkisian. As the No. 2 overall recruit in the country, Ewers will undoubtedly be a draft prospect to watch, with some teams already having differing opinions on his potential.

Ewers’ departure sets the stage for Arch Manning, who will take over as the starter in 2025 and lead the program into an uncertain future. As the son of Cooper Manning, grandson of Archie Manning, and nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning, expectations are high for the young quarterback’s success at Texas.
