Nintendo Staff Warn of Disruption from Switch 2 Leaks

Former Nintendo of America staff members Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang have spoken out about the impact of ongoing Switch 2 leaks on the company, saying they will cause significant disruption inside Nintendo and affect its ability to surprise fans.

Leaks have included release date rumors, games set for next-gen consoles, mockups of devices, motherboard images, and Joy-Con prototypes, leading to speculation about the console’s features and design.

According to Ellis and Yang, leaks can create a “high-stress situation” internally for staff who must deal with investigations close to the system’s reveal. The pair stated that Nintendo is likely reevaluating its product security measures due to the extensive leaks.

“We joke around about the hot exclamation mark emails,” said Yang, implying that Nintendo is extremely upset by the leaks. “They are very, very, very upset.”

Ellis and Yang expressed confidence in Nintendo’s ability to investigate and address the leaks, but warned that they will have a negative impact on staff focus and potentially affect the launch of the console.

The former PR managers emphasized that speculation about Nintendo being behind the leaks is highly unlikely. “Nintendo did not do this on purpose,” Ellis said.

A formal announcement for the Switch 2 console is expected in the first quarter of this year, but details remain under wraps until then. Nintendo has confirmed that the new console will be backward-compatible with original Switch games and feature Nintendo Switch Online.
