Minnesota Vaccination Rates Hit Record Low After Pandemic

Minnesota’s vaccination numbers have declined significantly since the pandemic began, and despite efforts to recover, rates remain lower than pre-pandemic levels.

The state’s Department of Health tracks vaccine requirements for kindergarten-age children, showing a decline in fully vaccinated rates. The rate dropped from 92% before the pandemic to around 87%, with varying percentage point drops depending on the specific vaccine.

Disruption caused by the pandemic is cited as a major reason for the decline, leading to missed well visits and disrupted routines. Additionally, an increase in non-medical exemptions has been observed, attributed to growing distrust in institutions such as healthcare and public health.
