The developer of popular Steam Early Access first-person shooter Fortune’s Run, Dizzie, has ceased work on the game after receiving a three-year prison sentence. In an announcement on the game’s Steam page, Dizzie shared that they had been sentenced for a case dating back five years, which was unrelated to their current development process.
Dizzie revealed that they were previously involved in some troubled circumstances before becoming a game developer and admitted to causing harm to others during that time. However, they emphasized that the sentence would not alleviate the pain of their past actions.
The news comes as a shock to fans of the game, which was praised for its unique blend of first-person shooter elements with immersive sim mechanics. The developer had worked solo on the project, apart from their wife Arachne, who left the team following a significant surgery last summer.
Dizzie expressed disappointment that the development is coming to an end due to unforeseen circumstances but assured fans that they would not give up on the game. They stated that although they are facing financial difficulties, they plan to continue working on Fortune’s Run after their release from prison and even released patch notes for a new update in recent days.
A post announcing upcoming work will be published next month before Dizzie begins her sentence. Despite this setback, Dizzie remains committed to finishing the game and has expressed passion about continuing to create games.
