Donkey Kong Country Returns HD Credits Omit Original Team

Nintendo has removed Retro Studios staff from the credits of its upcoming remaster, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD. The new game is being developed by Forever Entertainment and ported to multiple platforms. The original development team’s contributions are acknowledged in a generic statement, but not individually credited.

This decision comes after Nintendo’s previous practice of omitting individual credits for original developers was highlighted by former Retro Studios engineer Zoid Kirsch in 2023. The lack of recognition has also sparked disappointment among translators and other contractors working on high-profile games such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Despite this, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is still expected to be a challenging and satisfying platformer that stands the test of time, according to Eurogamer’s review.
