Cal-Carolina game preview: Two players to watch, Andrej Stojakovic and Tar Heel freshman Ian Jackson, who has been coming on like gangbusters and is now a starter since Seth Trimble missed three games with an injury. Stojakovic leads the ACC’s second-leading scorer, while Jackson boasts a 15-plus average after going five of the last six games with 20-plus points. The Bears do have other players who are good, such as Jovan Blacksher Jr., and Mady Sissoko.
The Heels are trying to compensate for their lack of size by using their four best players, including freshman Drake Powell, to start most of the game. If Tar Heel Jalen Washington plays well, the 4-1 team has a good shot at beating Cal and Stanford. Jackson’s emergence is a Godsend for Carolina fans.
Hubert Davis’ rotation strategy gives his top players more minutes. Jackson’s impressive skills make him a standout player, but also mean he might not return next season, similar to how other players have left the program.
