Meta to Cut 3,600 Employees in Major Staff Reduction

Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, is planning to lay off around 5% of its workforce this year. The move, which affects approximately 3,600 employees, aims to “raise the bar on performance management” and eliminate underperformers. CEO Mark Zuckerberg made the announcement in an internal note to staff.

Meta employs about 72,000 people globally, with the majority being based in the US. Workers in the US will be notified of their status on February 10, while those in other countries will receive information later. The company declined to comment further but confirmed that Bloomberg’s reporting is accurate.
