Entrepreneur Kevin O’Leary said a ceasefire-hostage agreement between Israel and Hamas was reached because foreign adversaries are “scared poo-poo” of President-elect Donald Trump. O’Leary, who backed Trump in 2024, told CNN that the deal follows the contours of a framework laid out by President Biden last May but was made possible due to Trump’s unpredictability.
O’Leary stated that Trump’s warning that “all hell would break loose” if hostages were not released by his inauguration date January 20 helped secure the deal. He said foreign adversaries were deterred by Trump’s comments and wanted to close the deal before he entered office. The billionaire investor also paraphrased a press conference at which Trump warned of consequences for Hamas, saying “all hell would break out” if they didn’t release the hostages.
Biden and Trump have both claimed credit for securing the hostage deal, with Biden saying it was his administration that developed and negotiated the framework and O’Leary saying it was Trump’s unpredictability that made it happen. The president-elect publicly celebrated the news of the deal before an official statement from the White House was released hours later, claiming he was the one who secured the agreement.
