Rio Tinto and Glencore Discuss Record-Breaking Mining Merger

Rio Tinto Group and Glencore Plc have held early stage talks to combine their businesses, creating a massive mining company that could rival industry giant BHP Group. The discussions took place in late last year but are currently inactive. The proposed merger would bring together two major players in the mining industry, with Rio Tinto being the world’s second-largest miner and Glencore valued at around $56 billion, compared to BHP’s market value of about $126 billion and Rio Tinto’s worth around $104 billion.
