Medvedev Makes Shock Exit at Australian Open

Defending champion Jannik Sinner advanced to the third round while Daniil Medvedev was stunned by qualifier Learner Tien in Melbourne.

Sinner defeated Australian wildcard Tristan Schoolkate 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3 to move on, following a slow start. This win marks his 16th consecutive victory and suggests he’s on track for next opponent Marcos Giron.

Medvedev, the defending champion, was dumped out of the tournament by Tien in a major upset. The Russian player lost 6-3, 7-6 (7/4), 6-7 (8/10), 1-6, 7-6 (10/7) to the young American.

Meanwhile, Iga Swiatek set up a showdown with Emma Raducanu after defeating world number 49 Rebecca Sramkova 6-0, 6-2. The Ukrainian player is seeking her first Melbourne Open title and will face the British challenger on Friday.
