Astronaut Suni Williams has completed her first space walk since arriving at the International Space Station (ISS) nearly seven months ago. The 59-year-old spacewalker, who was originally scheduled to return to Earth in February, is now expected to remain on the station until March.
Williams, along with fellow astronaut Butch Wilmore, arrived at the ISS in June 2024 for a test flight of a Boeing Starliner capsule. However, their spacecraft experienced mechanical issues and was sent back home without them.
The two astronauts had been working out and staying healthy while stuck at the ISS, according to Williams’ comments in November 2024. “We have a lot of fun up here too,” she said. “People who are worried about us, really, don’t worry about us… we’re a happy crew up here.”
NASA is now working with SpaceX to complete processing on a new Dragon spacecraft for their mission. The agency’s manager, Steve Stich, praised the hard work of the SpaceX team in expanding the Dragon fleet.
