Cybersecurity Teams Under Pressure as Threats Rise

Cyberattacks are becoming more frequent and complex, leaving cybersecurity teams struggling to keep up. A new survey from ISACA found that 68% of professionals in the field say their job is more stressful than it was five years ago, impacting their wellbeing.

The main reasons for this increased stress include rapid changes in the cybersecurity landscape, inadequate staff training (40%), and challenges with hiring and retention (47%). Many respondents also cited low budgets (45%) and a lack of prioritization of cybersecurity risks (37%).

Industry experts warn that underfunded teams are leaving critical infrastructure vulnerable. The most common attack vectors were social engineering (16%), unpatched system DoS (13%), and malware (12%).

The average cost of resolving data breaches is now over £3.5 million, and this figure is expected to rise in the future. With more frequent and sophisticated attacks, cybersecurity teams are facing an uphill battle.
