Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Controversy Amid Hall Effect Joystick Rumors

Rumors surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2’s Joy-Con controller have been circulating, with one prominent leaker claiming that new controllers will feature Hall Effect joysticks. This technology has been touted as a solution to the infamous “stick drift” issue that plagued the original Joy-Con controllers.

According to NextHandheld, a system teardown reveals evidence of Hall Effect joysticks in the new Joy-Cons. Stick drift is a common problem where the stick starts to behave unpredictably, causing unwanted movement in games. Traditional analog sticks use electrical resistance to detect movement, but Hall Effect joysticks rely on magnets and electrical conductors.

Unlike standard sticks, Hall Effect joysticks have no physical contact between moving parts, making them less prone to wear and tear. This technology also eliminates the risk of stick drift altogether.

However, some experts are skeptical about the benefits of Hall Effect joysticks. They argue that Nintendo has yet to fully understand the root cause of joy-con drift and may not have solved it for the new system.
