3 Navalny Lawyers Sentenced to Prison for Passing Correspondence

A Russian court has sentenced three lawyers for Alexei Navalny, the country’s top opposition figure before his death last year, to prison for passing along his correspondence. The lawyers, Vadim Kobzev, Igor Sergunin, and Aleksei Liptser, were found guilty of involvement in an extremist group and will face up to five and a half years in prison. The court claimed that the lawyers used their position to pass along Navalny’s letters from prison to his allies abroad. Navalny’s widow, Yulia Navalnaya, called the lawyers “political prisoners” and urged their release. The Kremlin’s move is seen as an attempt to isolate Navalny’s associates and silence them.
