A Bangladeshi national, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, who had entered India on false pretenses and changed his name to Bijoy Das, was arrested in Thane. The accused allegedly stabbed Saif Ali Khan on January 16 after being allowed into the actor’s apartment by staff who were unaware he was a threat.
Shehzad, from Jhalokathi district in southern Bangladesh, slept at a bus stop for hours before sneaking out and using a pipe shaft to climb down from the sixth floor to the twelfth. He broke into Khan’s flat through a bathroom window but was seen by staff, leading to the attack. The accused demanded ₹1 crore from Khan’s staff, who had locked him inside the apartment.
After stabbing Khan, Shehzad realized he had entered the wrong person’s house and was taken in by police after his lawyer claimed there was no proof of his Bangladeshi nationality. Shehzad has been charged with various crimes, including robbery and assault.
