Apple has confirmed it will bring its new hearing aid features to UK AirPods Pro 2 customers following government regulatory changes. The move comes as the UK government policy statement allows over-the-counter hearing aids.
The hearing health update includes a home hearing test that checks if users would benefit from hearing aid assistance, and the ability to upload an audiogram taken by a hearing health professional. Users can also utilize Loud Sound Reduction, which automatically reduces the impact of noisy environments when using AirPods earbuds.
This feature was first introduced in the US as a free software update in late 2024, following the government’s framework set out in 2022. The development was inspired by similar policies, and Apple is now expanding this functionality to UK users.
