Nelly Defends Performing at Trump Inauguration Ball

Rapper Nelly has come forward to defend his decision to perform at an inaugural ball following US President-elect Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony. The Grammy winner took to YouTube to address the backlash through a chat with fellow rapper Willie D.

Nelly stated that he was performing because it was an honor and he respected the office, regardless of who was in it. He also pointed out that more than half of the country voted for Trump, implying that those who respect the process should respect the outcome even if they didn’t agree with it. Nelly clarified that his presence at the event did not make him a supporter of Trump’s policies, but rather a supporter of the US president.

Nelly acknowledged the criticism and apologized if his fans thought politics was bigger than what the person stands for. His comments come after Carrie Underwood faced backlash for singing “America the Beautiful” during the same ceremony. Other performers at the inaugural events have also faced criticism from their fans.
