No. 12 Michigan State Beats No. 19 Illinois 80-78

Michigan State held on to beat No. 19 Illinois 80-78, extending their winning streak to 11 games. The Spartans (16-2, 7-0 Big Ten) were trailing by 10 points in the first half but rallied behind the performances of Tre Holloman and Frankie Fidler.

Holloman scored 17 points, including two free throws in the closing seconds, while Fidler added 11. Coen Carr also contributed 11 points. The Spartans took a lead with six points before Illinois’ bench was called for a technical foul, allowing Michigan State to regain control.

Illinois star Kasparas Jakucionis was held to season lows due to foul trouble. The Fighting Illini had taken an early 10-point lead but were unable to sustain it against the Spartans’ strong comeback.

Michigan State will look to continue their winning streak when they face Rutgers on Saturday, while Illinois hosts Maryland on Thursday night.
