The situation in Ukraine, China’s Taiwan ambitions, North Korea’s nuclear threats, and Iran’s nuclear program all pose significant challenges.
Unlike his predecessor, Trump cannot adopt a “peace through strength” approach without also embracing the definition of military power as outlined by President Ronald Reagan. The US must increase military investments to remain the strongest military power globally.
On Ukraine, a negotiated settlement with Russia is crucial. Trump must clearly communicate that the US will support Ukraine and not allow Putin to succeed. This would provide leverage for a peaceful resolution.
In dealing with China, Trump should focus on supporting strong alliances in Asia and promoting free trade and commerce. Retribution through tariffs will only lead to economic backlash.
Iran offers another opportunity for diplomacy. With Israel’s help, Trump could work to limit nuclear enrichment and stop support for proxies in exchange for relief from sanctions.
Ultimately, the key to peace lies in strength and leadership. If Trump uses his power wisely, he can build alliances that steer the world away from war. However, if he is careless, the US may face another world war.
