Laura Dern Mourns David Lynch’s Sudden Passing on What Would Have Been His 79th Birthday

Actor and director Laura Dern is paying tribute to her longtime collaborator and friend David Lynch, who passed away at the age of 78 on what would have been his 79th birthday.

Lynch was a frequent collaborator for many actors, including Naomi Watts, Justin Theroux, and Isabella Rossellini. Their professional partnership began in 1986 with the film Blue Velvet, where Dern played the lead role at just 17 years old. The two also worked together on Wild Heart in 1990, as well as Industrial Symphony No. 1, an avant-garde concert performance.

Lynch was known for helping his actors avoid typecasting in films and even campaigned for Laura Dern to earn an Oscar nomination for her role in Inland Empire in 2006. He famously sat on a street corner with a live cow to raise awareness for the consideration of passersby.

Many of Lynch’s collaborators, including Naomi Watts and Kyle MacLachlan, took to social media to share their tributes to the late filmmaker. Dern shared a heartfelt Instagram message, writing “I will love and miss you every day for the rest of my life.”
