Team Cherry Confirms Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Status

Team Cherry has confirmed that Hollow Knight: Silksong, the highly-anticipated Metroidvania sequel, is “real, progressing and will release.” The news comes after rumors circulated on social media about an ARG (alternate reality game) leading up to a release date. Co-creator William Pellen sparked speculation by changing his profile picture to a cake, which was later revealed to be just a joke.

According to GamesRadar, YouTuber fireb0rn confirmed that there was no ARG or connection between the cake image and the game’s development. Team Cherry’s PR and marketing head Matthew ‘Leth’ Griffin also reached out to confirm the game is still in progress. Despite multiple delays, Silksong remains a highly anticipated title.

The rumors surrounding the cake image were likely caused by Pellen’s previous statement “something big is coming,” which was posted ahead of last week’s Switch 2 Nintendo Direct. However, it appears that this was just hype and not related to Hollow Knight: Silksong’s release. The game was first announced in 2019 and has been the subject of much speculation over its status.
