Former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh has been hired by the Green Bay Packers as an analyst on their offensive side, a move that surprised many given his expected to be a short-term in-season rental. However, it seems Saleh may have changed plans.
As ESPN reports, Saleh will receive a second interview for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coaching vacancy scheduled for this Friday. This is not unexpected, as Saleh had interviewed with the Cowboys and Jaguars prior to joining the Packers.
If Saleh doesn’t land the Jaguars’ head coaching job, he’s likely to become the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive coordinator instead. The 49ers recently fired their 2024 defense coordinator and have only interviewed two candidates: Saleh and Detroit passing game coordinator Deshea Townsend.
Saleh has a history with both clubs, having previously served as the Jaguars’ linebackers coach from 2014-2016 and the 49ers’ defensive coordinator from 2017-2020. It remains to be seen whether he’ll bring his knowledge behind the Packers’ walls to his next team.
