The Dallas Cowboys are on high alert as they await the introduction of their 10th coach in franchise history, with owner Jerry Jones hoping to find the right man to lead the team to a Super Bowl for the first time since 1995. However, Jones’s weekend was marred by the Philadelphia Eagles’ and Washington Commanders’ NFC Championship Game appearances.
The Cowboys are now 29 seasons without a championship appearance, while their rivals are just one game away from competing in the title game. The Eagles, led by former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh, have built a strong roster through quality drafting and shrewd moves, with quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley among their high-paid players.
Meanwhile, the Commanders, coached by Dan Quinn, have reached the championship game for the first time since 1991. The Cowboys’ defense, which struggled in last January’s wild-card loss to the Green Bay Packers, will face a stiff test against one of its NFC East rivals.
Jones’s next head coach faces an uphill task, having failed with past six choices, including Chan Gailey, Dave Campo, Bill Parcells, Wade Phillips, Jason Garrett, and Mike McCarthy. With Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, former Jets head coach Robert Saleh, and Seattle Seahawks assistant head coach Leslie Frazier also in the running, Jones will have to make a smart hire to bring the Cowboys back to the Super Bowl.
As the Cowboys wait for their next move, they may be able to secure interviews with Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who were previously unconsidered due to the team’s slow decision-making process. However, Jones will also have to weigh the pros and cons of interviewing former Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury, whom he has expressed admiration for in the past.
