A new supply chain report suggests that LX Semicon is in the running to become a major supplier of display driver ICs (DDI) for Apple’s updated 2025 OLED iPad. The company, which has yet to secure final mass production approval from Apple, could potentially supply DDIs to the highly anticipated tablet if it secures the necessary approval around March.
According to reports, LX Semicon would be a welcome addition to Apple’s supplier lineup as Samsung Electronics System LSI currently dominates the DDI market for OLED iPads. However, LG Display has already been sourcing DDIs from LX Semicon and Taiwan’s Novatek for its iPhone OLED shipments in 2024, with LX Semicon’s contribution limited due to a lack of mass production approval.
This year, LX Semicon is set to supply DDIs to both LG Display and BOE for the iPhone 17 series, alongside Novatek. Meanwhile, Samsung Display’s orders are expected to be fulfilled solely by Samsung Electronics System LSI. The development marks a significant shift in the competitive landscape of the DDI market, with LX Semicon poised to capitalize on its new Apple partnership if it succeeds in securing mass production approval.
