A ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas has entered its second day, with both sides releasing captives as part of the deal. On Sunday, Hamas released three Israeli women who had been held captive for 471 days, while Israel released 90 Palestinian prisoners, including children as young as 15 years old.
The releases are part of a ceasefire agreement that also includes the release of additional Israeli captives and Palestinian prisoners over time. Thousands of displaced Palestinians in Gaza have begun trying to return home now that Israel’s 15-month bombing campaign has ended.
However, many are struggling to cope with the devastating damage caused by the conflict. Amal Abu Eita returned to her home in the Jabaliya refugee camp to find nothing but rubble, forcing her and her 10 children to search for shelter.
Abu Eita expressed her frustration, saying “Our situation is destroyed… We are trying to find a piece to shelter in. What is our situation?” The ceasefire brings some relief, as it seems to ease the suffering of Palestinians by bringing their situation more in line with that of other Arabs.
