Brian Schottenheimer Emerges as Cowboys’ Head Coaching Contender

The search for the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys continues, and an internal investigation is underway to evaluate Brian Schottenheimer, the team’s current offensive coordinator. Schottenheimer, son of legendary coach Marty Schottenheimer, interviewed for the head coaching vacancy on Tuesday.

Schottenheimer joined the Cowboys in 2022 as a coaching analyst and was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2023 after Kellen Moore’s departure. He boasts a longer coaching resume, having started his career immediately after winning a national championship with the Florida Gators. Schottenheimer has spent 28 years in the coaching ranks, including stints as an assistant for the Rams, Chiefs, and Washington Commanders.

The Cowboys are interested in hearing Schottenheimer’s plan to turn around the team’s performance on the field, citing his experience, ability to relate to players, and familiarity with Dallas. With Kellen Moore recently completing a virtual interview for the head coaching position, Schottenheimer is now also vying for the role alongside his former colleague.
