Four Chilean men were arrested in Ohio as part of a multi-state investigation into high-profile home burglaries targeting NFL players’ homes. The arrests may be linked to the break-in at Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow’s house.
A criminal complaint obtained by CNN reveals that the four suspects, identified as Sergio Cabello, Alexander Chavez, Bastian Morales, and Jordan Sanchez, were arrested during a search of their vehicle. The men are accused of being in the country illegally or overstaying their visas.
The investigation is part of an FBI warning to professional sports leagues and teams about organized theft groups targeting athletes’ homes. The FBI reported that these groups burglarized at least nine professional athletes’ homes between September and November 2024, using tactics such as glass rear doors, windows, and second-story doors.
Burrow’s home was broken into in December while the Bengals were playing a game in Texas. The men are also charged with possessing burglary tools and obstructing official business.
Three of the suspects will appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday. The defendants’ attorney has been contacted by CNN but no comment was received.
The investigation has resulted in the arrest of at least six South American burglary organizations, five of them being Chilean nationals.
