Stargate Project Invests $100 Billion in AI Infrastructure for OpenAI

The Stargate Project is a new company that plans to invest $500 billion over four years in building AI infrastructure for OpenAI in the US. The project will begin deploying funds worth $100 billion immediately, aiming to secure American leadership in AI and create hundreds of thousands of jobs.

Key technology partners include Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle, and OpenAI, with SoftBank serving as lead partner and financial backer. Masayoshi Son, SoftBank’s chairman, will oversee the project.

The buildout is underway, starting in Texas, with potential sites being evaluated across the country for future campuses. Stargate aims to collaborate closely with partners to develop and operate this computing system, building on existing relationships between OpenAI and tech giants like Microsoft and NVIDIA.

OpenAI plans to increase its consumption of Azure as it continues its work with Microsoft, using the new compute resources to train models and deliver products and services. The project’s goals include advancing AI research, particularly in AGI (Artificial General Intelligence), to benefit humanity.

The Stargate Project seeks to engage firms across the data center infrastructure landscape, from power and land acquisition to construction and equipment provision.
