Canadian Man Narrowly Survives Meteor Strike Caught on Camera

A meteor strike captured on video last July left Joe Velaidum, a Prince Edward Island homeowner, unharmed but stunned. While taking out his dogs for a walk, Velaidum stopped to pick up a lost dog leash and stood in the exact spot where the meteor struck minutes later. If he had stayed there another minute, he would have been hit.

The video evidence shows the meteorite’s fiery descent and explosive impact. Scientists confirmed that the collected debris samples were chondrite rocks formed during the Solar System’s birth. The University of Alberta analysis suggests that the meteor traveled millions of miles before reaching Earth. What makes this event remarkable is that it occurred on camera, with audio and video capture, a rare occurrence due to the meteorite’s high speed and the atmosphere’s ability to burn up most objects.
