AMD has hinted at the possibility of creating a limited-edition Ryzen X3D CPU with 16 cores and 3D V-Cache, but it’s unclear if this will become a reality. Donny Woligroski, AMD’s senior technical marketing manager for consumer processors, acknowledged that some customers have requested such a product, which could be made available as a limited edition due to its high cost.
Woligroski believes that the benefits of such a chip are not significant enough to justify the increased price. He pointed out that even with 16 cores and 3D V-Cache, the performance difference might only be around 2% compared to a traditional Ryzen X3D CPU. This would make it difficult for consumers to justify the added cost.
However, AMD is willing to conduct internal analysis to determine if there’s a market demand for such a product. Woligroski emphasized that gamers should focus on the eight-core Ryzen 9 9950X3D, which offers consistent gaming performance comparable to the 12-core Ryzen 9 9900X3D.
For now, AMD recommends choosing between these two options based on specific needs. The company aims to improve its gaming performance with the new drivers, making it harder for users to distinguish between the different chip variants.
