Stellantis (STLA), a top automaker, is making significant US moves to adapt to President Trump’s focus on manufacturing and job creation. In response to Trump’s administration, the company has announced several key actions:
1. **New Midsize Pickup Truck Plant**: Stellantis will build a new midsize pickup truck at its shuttered Belvidere, Ill., assembly plant, reversing previous plans that relocated workers there.
2. **Dodge Durango Production**: The SUV production line for DodgeDurango is moving back to the U.S., with rumors of it shifting to Canada now being reversed.
3. **Expanding Toledo Plant**: Stellantis has invested in Toledo, Ohio, enhancing Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator tech and adding tooling operations to create critical components in-house.
4. **Kokomo Plant Expansion**: Plans to build a new four-cylinder engine will be led from Kokomo, Ind., ensuring the U.S. is the home for this strategic powertrain.
These measures come as Trump hinted at tariffs on products made in Mexico and Canada, where Stellantis has operations. The company will discuss its US strategy and financial results when it reports earnings on February 26.
