Apple’s MagSafe technology has revolutionized smartphone charging, and Samsung is now trying to bring similar innovation to Android devices. However, while Samsung is testing Qi2 wireless charging on its new Galaxy S25 series, many users are still stuck with traditional magnetic cases that mimic the system.
Qi2, introduced in 2023, offers faster and more efficient wireless charging compared to previous methods. But because Samsung has yet to release a Qi2-enabled flagship phone, users must rely on Qi2 Ready cases—magnetic sleeves that work alongside their devices to enable Qi2 functionality. These cases are certified by Samsung and third-party sellers, ensuring compatibility with Qi2 accessories like power banks or wireless chargers.
While Qi2 Ready phones offer convenience, they come with limitations. For instance, users must use magnetic cases to benefit from the technology, which can be frustrating for those who prefer case-less solutions. Additionally, most Android phones currently support only Qi, not Qi2, creating a gap in smartphone capabilities.
Despite these challenges, Samsung and Google have expressed optimism that Qi2 support will eventually be available in 2025. Until then, users may have to make do with magnetic cases or wait for the arrival of fully Qi2-enabled devices. For now, Qi2 remains an intriguing but limited feature on Android phones.
