Four out of five game developers are now focusing on PC projects, marking a significant increase from 66% a year ago. Informa’s survey reveals that 80% of surveyed professionals are working on PC games, the highest percentage since 2018 when it stood at 60%. This rise follows a steady climb between 56-66% over the past few years before jumping this year.
The growing interest in PC development is evident from a 12% increase in developers expressing their preference for the platform, rising from 62% last year to 74% this year. This trend aligns with the popularity of Steam Deck sales, which have surged due to strong demand and positive reviews.
SteamDB records show that PC games now account for over 32% of all individual titles released globally in 2024, setting a new high of 18,974 games as of late 2024. This leap from around 16% in 2022 underscores the ongoing demand and success of PC gaming among developers.
The surge is likely connected to the growing appeal of Steam Deck, which has spurred both hardware sales and developer enthusiasm for creating new PC titles.
