Meta Platforms (META) has announced plans to invest $60 billion to $65 billion in capital expenditures this year as it expands its artificial intelligence efforts. CEO Mark Zuckerberg highlighted the creation of an enormous AI data center, covering a significant portion of Manhattan, which will power advancements in AI technology. Meta’s stock rose 1.7% to close at an all-time high of $647.49 after the announcement, marking a new record and a 65% gain over the past year.
Zuckerberg emphasized that 2025 will be a defining year for AI, with Meta aiming to build an AI data center capable of delivering 1 gigawatt of computing power by then. The company also plans to deploy over 1.3 million GPU chips by the end of 2025. This announcement follows Stargate, a $500 billion AI project revealed by President Trump earlier in the week, which drove related stocks higher.
Analysts predict that Meta’s Llama 4 large language model will further expand its capabilities throughout the year, with some features resembling those from OpenAI’s Operator AI agent. Meta has also stated its intention to serve over 1 billion people using its advanced AI solutions powered by Llama 4.
