New Discovery: Chorus Waves Extend Far Beyond Earth

Scientists have made a groundbreaking discovery about radiation belts in our solar system. Using data from NASA’s MMS mission, researchers found that “chorus waves,” previously thought to exist only close to Earth and other planets, are actually much more common far out in space. These waves were detected 165,000 kilometers (100,000 miles) away from Earth, placing them deep within the solar system’s magnetosphere. This finding challenges previous assumptions about where such waves form and has significant implications for understanding space travel safety and the behavior of charged particles in the cosmos.
