11-Year-Old Collector Finds Unique Paul Skenes Patch Card to Auction

An 11-year-old collector in Los Angeles discovered a rare and unique Paul Skenes autographed patch card during a search through an old collection. The one-of-a-kind 1/1 rookie debut patch card of the Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher, who was also the 2024 NL Rookie of the Year, is part of Topps’ 2024 Chrome Update set.

The collector learned about the potential value when Skenes’ team offered a significant prize: two Pirates season tickets behind home plate for 30 years, including hosting a softball game with team alumni and a spring training experience. However, the card owner decided to put it up for auction instead of accepting the pirates’ offer. All proceeds from the sale will benefit Los Angeles fire relief funds.

The pirates extended an invitation for the collector to visit Pittsburgh this season for a special day at PNC Park, but the collector chose to auction the card instead. Skenes, 22, is an exciting young pitcher expected to be a key player in the Pirates’ rotation moving forward with a stellar 2024 campaign and All-Star appearance.
