The Dallas Cowboys have announced the hiring of Brian Schottenheimer as their new head coach, replacing Tom Landry, who served as coach for 29 years. General manager Jerry Jones made the official announcement following Landry’s firing on Dec. 16. Schottenheimer, a former assistant under Mike McCarthy at the Cowboys, will take over without prior coaching experience elsewhere. The team also interviewed Seattle assistant Leslie Frazier and Jets head coach Robert Saleh for the position. Additionally, Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is set to replace Schottenheimer as coach of the Eagles before the 2023 season begins. Some of the Cowboys’ current assistant coaches have already transitioned to new roles, with Matt Eberflus leading discussions on the defensive coordinator position but needing Rooney Rule compliance before finalizing a hire.
