Sudanese armed forces and allied groups successfully repelled a major attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on El Fasher in North Darfur, causing significant losses. The battle began after an RSF ultimatum expired, prompting defense forces to launch simultaneous attacks from multiple fronts. Eyewitness accounts indicate heavy destruction of military vehicles and targeted strikes on RSF positions near the city center.
The Sudanese Joint Force, comprising the Sudanese army, local police, and other armed groups, neutralized more than 400 RSF fighters and destroyed over 25 military vehicles while preventing a potential cut-off of El Fasher’s water supply by disrupting an attack on the Golo reservoir.
A spokesperson for the Joint Force accused the United Arab Emirates (UAE) of providing support to RSF, urging the international community to intervene in what they described as coordinated assistance. Governor Minni Arko Minawi of Darfur region warned against further attacks and monitor RSF movements.
The attack marks a crucial moment in the conflict, with El Fasher remaining the last major city in Darfur not under RSF control since 2023. The ongoing battle has displaced millions and exacerbated humanitarian conditions.
