Trade Captivates WNBA Universe

Kelsey Plum, the WNBA’s most decorated player, heads to Los Angeles in a trade involving three teams. Jewell Loyd, who spent her entire career with the Seattle Storm, will join the Las Vegas Aces as part of this deal. The Sparks sent their No. 2 pick and Li Yueru to Seattle while receiving the No. 9 pick from Los Angeles. The Aces acquired the No. 13 pick in the draft. Sources confirm the trade details were discussed Sunday night, though no official announcement has been made yet.

Plum, who won consecutive championships with the Aces in 2022 and 2023, is now a franchise player on Jan. 11. She averaged 17.8 points and 4.2 assists last season. Loyd, entering her final season with the Storm, currently averages 19.7 points and 4.5 rebounds, having won six WNBA All-Star selections. This trade gives the Sparks a veteran guard to pair with rising stars Ricbecca Jackson and Cameron Brink, while reuniting Loyd with her former Aces teammate Dearica Hamby.

The move also brings Plum closer to home as she grew up in Poway, California. ESPN first reported the trade.
