A recent survey reveals that many employers prefer hiring artificial intelligence robots over Gen Z graduates due to their perceived lack of skills and experience. According to a study from Hult International Business School, 37% of employers stated they would rather hire AI than a recent graduate because Gen Zers are seen as unreliable and prone to mental health issues.
The disconnect between college education and workplace readiness is a growing concern for employers. While 96% of companies acknowledge that college isn’t adequately preparing graduates for their roles, nearly all employers struggle to find talent. The survey highlights that young workers often lack real-world experience and don’t work well in teams—issues that many employers attribute to their reliance on AI.
Gen Zers have also criticized their education system, with 94% expressing regret over their degrees and 43% feeling doomed to fail due to poor choices. Meanwhile, employers defend AI’s cost-effectiveness and lack of responsibility issues, while Gen Z argues they are already excelling in the workforce, having learned more on the job than in school.
This shift raises ethical concerns about replacing human workers with AI, which could lead to wage stagnation, inequality, and a shrinking workforce. Experts caution that Gen Z will need alternative ways to gain experience if they’re to fully enter the workforce. The debate over AI and workforce readiness continues as companies grapple with balancing efficiency and ethics in the evolving job market.
