Broadway Week Promotions Lead to 11% Drop in Box Office Revenues

Broadway Week’s 2-for-1 ticket promotion saw box office receipts drop 11%, with total attendance holding steady. The week-long deal, which kicked off on January 21, brought mixed results as some shows performed well while others faced lower attendance due to departing stars and the ongoing promotion’s impact.

Redwood, a new musical starring Idina Menzel, grabbed significant attention with its sell-out performance at the Nederlander Theatre. The show opened on February 13 and has been consistently sold out since. Its opening week brought in $397,117, highlighting its strong start despite the broader market downturn.

Pulitzer Prize-winning *The English* also saw success, grossing $264,480 during its official opening week after partial sellouts and low attendance due to reduced capacity. Positive reviews are expected to boost future performances.

Some shows experienced slight dips in attendance or revenue. *Oh, Mary!* lost 2% attendance as Cole Escola’s departure impacted performance numbers, while American Primeval saw a $327,869 drop in earnings attributed to the promotion and Escola’s exit. Meanwhile, *The Outsiders* maintained strong sales with SRO attendance and high grosses.

Other notable performances included Romeo + Juliet ($967,398) and All In: Comedy About Love ($1,424,599), with Simon Rich’s revolving cast production continuing to captivate audiences. The box office chart was dominated by Wicked, which took the top spot for the third consecutive week.

Season-to-date totals show a 18% increase in revenue compared to the same period last year, while attendance has also risen by 16%. Broadway Week continues through February 9, with the promotion set to remain active during this time.
