South Korea Plane Fire in Gimhae Airport

An Airbus plane operated by South Korean carrier Air Busan caught fire on a runway at Gimhae international airport while preparing for departure to Hong Kong, officials said Tuesday. All 169 passengers and seven crew were safely evacuated with minor injuries reported. Fire sources indicated the flames originated inside the plane’s tail. Footage showed evacuation slides deployed as emergency workers tackled smoke and flames from the aircraft. Burned-out holes were visible along the fuselage roof in later footage. This incident follows a tragic air disaster a month ago when a Jeju Air plane crashed after attempting an emergency belly landing at Muan airport, killing 179 people on board. Air Busan is part of South Korea’s Asiana Airlines, which was acquired by Korean Air last December. Airbus confirmed it is aware of the incident and has been in contact with Air Busan. The flight in question is a 17-year-old Airbus A321ceo model with tail number HL7763.
