BYU upset Baylor 93-89 on Tuesday night, extending their series lead to 7-6. Kanon Catchings scored 23 points as the Cougars dominated the game early with a 9-3 surge, leading by 14 before overtime. In overtime, Richie Saunders made six of his 17 points and converted two free throws to tie the game at 87-86. The Cougars then closed out with six free throws to seal the win.
BYU’s offense was sharp throughout, hitting four 3-pointers and shooting an impressive 24% from beyond the arc. Catchings excelled, making all his shots including both free throws in overtime. Egor Demin added 15 points and Trevin Knell scored 11 points for BYU.
Baylor’s edge was clear until late in the second half when Robert Wright scored nine points on a 9-3 run to cut the lead to six with just five seconds remaining. However, BYU held on thanks to their free throws.
Wright led Baylor with 28 points and added 22 rebounds, while Demin contributed 15 points. The Cougars are now 14-6 overall and 5-4 in the Big 12.
BYU remains the favorite as they prepare for a matchup with UCF on Saturday, while Baylor faces No. 11 Kansas later that week.
