New research shows mice whose genetic parents are both male have reached adulthood for the first time. This remarkable achievement required complex genetic modifications that couldn’t be done in humans. While earlier studies created mice with two female parents (known as Hermaphrodites), creating mice with two male parents has proven far more challenging due to significant reproductive challenges and potential sterility issues. The new study highlights how advancements in genetic engineering have allowed scientists to overcome these barriers, marking a milestone for understanding same-sex parentage in mammals.
