A star-studded lineup of musicians is coming together to support relief efforts for the victims of deadly wildfires that ravaged the Los Angeles area, claiming 29 lives and causing billions of dollars in damage. The two concerts, collectively known as FireAid, kicked off at the Kia Forum and Intuit Dome on Thursday evening.
Green Day opened the show with a surprise appearance by Billie Eilish, performing their hits “Last Night on Earth” and “Still Breathing.” Billy Crystal welcomed the audience and announced that U2 had donated $1 million to the cause, which was matched to equal $2 million. The funds will be distributed under the advisement of the Annenberg Foundation.
The concerts feature a diverse lineup of artists, including Sir Rod Stewart, Pink, Slash, Stevie Nicks, St. Vincent, and Nirvana’s original members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic. Other performers include Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Stevie Wonder.
Viewers around the world can watch, stream, and make contributions to FireAid on various platforms, including Apple Music and Prime Video, beginning at 6 p.m. PT/ 9 p.m. ET on Thursday. The concert will also be broadcast on 860 iHeartRadio radio stations, and donations will be matched dollar for dollar.
The funds raised from the concerts will support rebuilding communities devastated by wildfires and prevent future fire disasters throughout Southern California.
