SpaceX Launches Next-Gen SpainSat NG-1 Satellite into Orbit

SpaceX successfully launched its next-generation Spanish communications satellite, SpainSat NG-1 (SpainSat NG-1), into orbit on January 29 at 8:34 p.m. ET from Pad 39A of NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Falcon 9 rocket carrying the satellite reached a geostationary transfer orbit, where it was deployed 31.5 minutes after liftoff.

The SpainSat NG-1 is a communications satellite developed by Hisdesat and designed with advanced capabilities from the European Space Agency (ESA), including faster data transmission, better security, and precise beam direction. The launch marks a key milestone for Spain-based Hisdesat and ESA in providing adaptable and secure communication services across Europe.

According to SpaceX, the Falcon 9’s upper stage hauled the satellite to its final position 22,236 miles above Earth. “With that successful deploy of Spainsat NG-1, it begins its journey to its final destination,” said John Inspruker, signing off from SpaceX’s coverage of the launch.

This marks the 13th launch for SpaceX in 2025 and the 21st and final flight for the Falcon 9 first stage booster B1073. The stage was not recovered due to performance needs of this mission.
