Twin Cities Pride has surpassed its fundraising goal, raising over $72,000 in less than two days after cutting ties with Target as a sponsor. The organization’s executive director, Andi Otto, attributed the outpouring of support to social media campaigns and individual donations.
The decision to remove Target from their events came after the retailer announced it would discontinue its diversity, equity, and inclusion goals. As a result, Twin Cities Pride opted not to renew its sponsorship with Sam’s Club, which had previously donated $2,500.
The funds raised will be used to cover costs such as performer fees, security, and purchasing gender-affirming garments for the festival. Otto expressed gratitude towards the community and supporters, calling it an “incredible feeling” that demonstrates the organization’s strong connections with its audience.
